A Dead Girl and a Sick Woman

Image
In the New Testament (Mark 5:21-43 & Luke 8:40-56), there's a seemingly simple story concerning a girl who has died and a woman who touched Jesus' robe for healing. On the surface, it's about receiving miraculous healing by having faith in Jesus. But, as I was reading this passage today, I realized some details in it that offer a more profound deliverance, for me at least.  The woman has been afflicted with an unending menstruation for twelve years at this point. Twelve years of being a woman of child-bearing age yet without the ability to conceive due to this abhorrence. On the other hand, we have a girl dying in the intro and dead upon arrival that happens to be twelve years of age. Dead when the woman's menses stopped.  What I realized about this story is that it's not just about two females but one. The fact that the story has been told as one, linked through Christ's actions, reveals the integrity of the two females' indivisibility. As Mark 4:12 sta...

Recognizing Myth

Image
An excerpt from Unearthing the Sacred: proposed hypothesis for the ascendancy of the human species from a perspective of the i Carl Jung, Joseph Campbell, Robert Graves, and Sir James Frazer (just to name a mere handful) understood that our world Becomes through a mythological tapestry of woven threads, layered to perfection. We perform roles according to an archetypal law that weaves a storyline as old as time. By acting out these archetypes through various scenarios, environments, and mutable characters, we not only develop as individual souls and help the collective development as well but we expand the creative capacity of God. Within these scenarios, a symbolic language exists that intellectually we have only begun to grasp. There breathes a universal language substratum that speaks directly to the Soul. Indirectly, it may upload as thought and unearth into consciousness, albeit in a serpentine and, perhaps, perplexing manner. Myth only comes in riddles, symbols, and vocal...

Finding Grace

Image
I wanted to tell someone about this lovely dream I had last night. On the surface, it seems rather mundane, but, as many of us know, dreams are riddled with symbolism. The dream consisted of several scenes. The first one, I remember calling for a ride from the driver of a school bus. She had previously given me rides before and had insisted that anytime I needed, to call her. For some reason, I wasn't at home but was being driven home and ended up meeting the school bus a block after she had passed my home. Ever kind and gracious, she opens the doors to tell me to hop on. Instead of being gracious in return, however, I felt guilt and decided to apologize several times and be overly exuberant in my gratitude, which was just annoying even to me. Now, in this first scene, I am being given a gift of faith, support, and acceptance. Instead of accepting it as the gift that it was, however, I changed the energy by feeling guilty and believing I was taking advantage of her. In the society...

Creating Through Dreams

Image
It is said the beginning of a dream tells what the issue is. The middle explains how to resolve the issue, and the third part shows the outcome if you were to pursue this path. I once had a dream (1996) in which I wrote: In a classroom, [we’re] sitting at our desks and some people were passing things out of theirs as we were to share everything. It was a very controlled atmosphere and it seems I was slightly scared or fearful of something bigger than I could comprehend - it was something about how the atmosphere was so controlled. I remember getting this card from Aadrik - it contained a card, some embroidery floss (brown and one other color,) and something else. I remember taking the brown floss and starting to hand it to the person in front of me (because I thought I HAD to give it away - I thought that was the rule) but someone told me (internally) that I could keep it. Surrounding us was some sort of market. It was dark, mysterious, and packed with people going to and fro. I ...

The sounds of language

Image
Recently, I just had to buy this fascinating book called  Know the Name; Know the Person: Decoding Letters to Reveal Secrets Hidden in Names by SharĂ³n Lynn Wyeth . As a full-fledged Sagittarian with 4 planets in the Sags house, I can't help but be captivated by personality categorization systems, whether it's astrology, the Myers-Briggs testing, or through numerology. I became fascinated with wanting this book after hearing the author doing an interview on Coast to Coast . She said she had found that certain sounds and letters would indicate definitive character traits. The more she studied, the sharper her understanding of this concept it became. (Mind you, she has me down pat.) Did anyone see the movie Arrival ? Amy Adams plays a linguist who must learn to interpret an unknown alien language. By the end, it becomes a universal language. The above two concepts made me begin to wonder about something... The story of the Tower of Babel begins with a united people with one go...

Soul Language

Image
If you've even remotely studied the chakras or other metaphysical things, you've probably noticed the symbols that accompany them. Symbolism is the language of the soul. In the Middle Ages, art was not, for the most part, about technique. Seriously, if you've never studied art from that time period, it's sub-par compared to the present day, much less the Renaissance. The emphasis, instead, went into the myth and symbolism. Mary usually wears blue, sometimes red, depending on the storyline. The dove represents the Holy Spirit. The representation of Christ has its start in Appolonic representation, think "golden boy." (Apollo was a Greek god associated with the sun, among other things. He was usually depicted with sun rays emanating from his head, which became the halo later with Christ.) It was probably the Surrealists though that really learned to capitalize on a semiotic subconscious framework within their art. Everyone argues over whether something shou...
